Job Description

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is Kenya’s premier bar association, with membership of all practicing advocates, currently numbering over thirteen thousand members. It has the mandate to advise and assist members of the legal profession, the government and the larger public in all matters relating to the administration of justice in Kenya.

Compliance & Ethics Directorates

  • Location; Nairobi

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist with inquiries and follow ups
  2. Assist walk-in clients
  3. Assist with drafting Letters of Good Standing
  4. Assist in conducting legal research
  5. Assist in writing reports for the Department
  6. Any other duties as may be assigned by the Secretary/CEO

Qualifications

  1. At the time of applying, have been admitted to the Advocates Training Programme at the Kenya School of Law (KSL) in its current academic year
  2. Hold an LLB degree from a recognized university
  3. Candidates afforded pupillage in the past by Law Society are not eligible to apply.

Practice Standards Directorate

  • Location; Nairobi

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist in handling complaints and attending to complainants
  2. Assist with correspondence
  3. Assist in minute taking on the Committee of Practice Standard and Ethics
  4. Assist in drafting Letters of No Objection
  5. Assist in following up with inquiries on Practicing Certificates
  6. Assist in conducting research on practice matters
  7. Any other duties as may be assigned by the Secretary/CEO

Qualifications

  1. At the time of applying, have been admitted to the Advocates Training Programme at the Kenya School of Law (KSL) in its current academic year
  2. Hold an LLB degree from a recognized university
  3. Candidates afforded pupillage in the past by Law Society are not eligible to apply.

Public Interest Litigation Directorate

  • Location; Nairobi

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist in supporting and initiating programs for the Public Interest and Advocacy Directorate
  2. Assist in managing and assisting clients at the legal aid desk
  3. Assist in engaging relevant stakeholders in policy and legal reform
  4. Assist to manage and update the pro bono database and Public interest
  5. Assist in case management of matters LSK is involved in and liaison with advocates on record
  6. Assist in coordinating and implementing activities and meetings of LSK committees
  7. Assist in initiating and implementing partnership initiatives
  8. Assist in developing position papers and policy briefs on emergent issues
  9. Any other duties as may be assigned by the Secretary/CEO

Qualifications

Parliamentary Affairs & Legislation Directorate

  • Location; Nairobi

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist in developing position papers for consideration by the head of the department
  2. Assist in preparation of draft report/researches and concept note for approval by the head of department
  3. Assist to review Parliamentary Hansard to appraise the department of any developments in Parliament in relation to Bills
  4. Assist in writing relevant and periodic reports from information acquired in various workshops
  5. Be available to assist support members and the Council committee as need arises
  6. Any other duties as may be assigned by the Secretary/CEO

Qualifications

  1. At the time of applying, have been admitted to the Advocates Training Programme at the Kenya School of Law (KSL) in its current academic year

Continuing Professional Development Directorate

  • Location; Nairobi

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist in Implementation of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme
  2. Assist to manage, coordinate and implement the Continuing Professional Development Programme, activities and events
  3. Assist to co-ordinate the affairs of the Committee on Continuing Professional Development
  4. Assist to conceptualize and Develop Programme ideas in line with the mandate of the Society’s objectives and Strategic Plan
  5. Assist in preparing and producing timely Reports
  6. Assist with the publication of the CPD Digest
  7. Any other duties as may be assigned by the Secretary/CEO

  2. Hold an LLB degree from a recognized university
  3. Candidates afforded pupillage in the past by Law Society are not eligible to apply.

  • Letter from Kenya School of Law to show that you are admitted at the school.

    • Copies of all academic certificates
