We currently have an exciting career opportunity for a Business Development Manager, Broker Channel, General Department. The role reports to the Head of Business Development, General Department.

Role Purpose

Business Development for General Insurance Business and coordinating the implementation of the work plan to enable achievement of the set budget and ensuring improvement of business production and service delivery of the outreach producers and encouraging achievement of the set production target for the producers

Responsibilities for the Business Development Manager Job

  • Providing strong leadership in the development of the business under the broker channel so as to support the achievement of the department’s objectives, business plan, ensuring delivery and maintenance of highest standard of customer service and marketing of the company products
  • Contributing to the formulation of and review of business plan and budgets and ensuring success
  • Identification of new business leads, liaison with brokers, maintenance of sales funnel and continuous follow up of prospects (negotiations) to ensure high quotation conversion rates
  • Conducting market research, analyzing business trends in the market and providing market intelligence to the Head of Business Development for key business decisions for sustainable upward growth of the channel
  • Onboarding and developing brokers to achieve maximum production to the company and conducting periodic training programs to intermediaries to sensitize them on the marketing of company’s new and existing products
  • Participating in client portfolio reviews and setting of underwriting terms
  • Developing and maintaining productive relationship with brokers through well planned regular visits and review of business incentives to motivate performance
  • Organizing networking functions between brokers and the underwriting staff to improve working relationships that boosts targeted production
  • Implementation of credit control policy and ensuring adherence to the Cash and Carry regulations
  • Weekly reporting of business (new & renewals) performance
  • Managing business renewal retention through the broker channel to achieve set renewal targets
  • Ensuring efficient management of new business onboarding process including the tendering of government business in terms of timeliness and documentation to ensure high tender closure rates

Business Development Manager Job Qualifications

  • Graduate in business related degree (marketing, commerce, insurance, economics)
  • Excellent General business Technical knowledge
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office suite and packages
  • Professional insurance certificates/ diplomas/ advanced diploma
  • People management skills both of internal and external partners

Relevant Experience

  • A minimum of Six (6) years’ experience in General Business gained in a reputable general insurance company
